Welcome to
Chautauqua County!
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT... Andrew Minton

Welcome to the Chautauqua County Music Teachers Association's Web Site. Our organization of more than 80 public and parochial school music educators and collegiate representatives from the School of Music at SUNY College at Fredonia and JCC collaborate with one another to invest in the musical growth of our students and communities.

The purpose of the Chautauqua County Music Teachers Association, since its inception in 1949, is to advance and strengthen the cause of music education in Chautauqua County. CCMTA provides and hosts two All County Music Festivals each year featuring 10 performing ensembles. These honors ensembles include chorus, band, orchestra, vocal jazz, jazz ensemble and percussion ensemble at the Elementary, Junior and Senior High levels. We are fortunate to be able to invite our students onto the world class stages of the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheatre and Reg Lenna Civic Center. Our CCMTA solo festival and scholarship auditions provide student with the opportunity to develop as a solo musician. Students who wish to study with private teachers, at summer camp, or who plan to major in music at the college level are welcome to audition.

CCMTA provides leadership in the professional growth of teacher through our In-Service clinics and chairperson opportunities. We are proud of the accomplishments of our teachers who give back to their communities through their volunteer efforts as organizers within this organization.

As President of our County Association, I am thankful for and proud to work with this dedicated group of educators and leaders. My first All County experience was as a seventh grade alto from Ripley in Junior Chorus back in 1986. Were it not for my music teacher and those who worked with her, I probably would not be the person I am today. Not all of our students will grow up to be professional musicians. Many will be like my mother, another Ripley gal who performed as a clarinetist in 1970. She still attends this festival and enjoys the excellent music and tradition that CCMTA performers provide. CCMTA understands that amateurs and professionals alike enjoy and feel the power of musical expression. Our festivals are open to the public, and we extend our warmest invitation to be part of these special performances.

I hope you will find our Web Page to be helpful, informative, and resourceful.
