Chautauqua County Music Teachers Association

Welcome to
Chautauqua County!
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT... Andrew Minton

CCMTA is an organization of active and retired Chautauqua County music educators and associate members, including faculty from SUNY Fredonia and Jamestown Community College.

Members of the Chautauqua County Music Teachers Association work together endlessly throughout the entire year in the name of our purpose: To advance and strengthen the cause of music education in Chautauqua County. With this goal in mind, we strive to provide our music students with a constantly growing list of exceptional musical opportunities. Our Winter All-County Festival features Elementary Band, Vocal Jazz, Women's Chorus, Brass and Percussion Ensembles and Jazz Band. Our revered Spring All-County Festival, presented at the world famous Amphitheater at the Chautauqua Institution, features Elementary, Junior High and Senior High Choruses and Junior High and Senior High Bands. Our members have responded to the growing needs and desires of our students throughout the years by creating many additional diverse and excellent performance and educational opportunities for Chautauqua County music students throughout the year. All of these events are open to the public and can be further examined through this website.

Another major CCMTA effort is our yearly solo festival which provides students a means for auditioning for some of these ensembles, to grow as musicians and to be adjudicated by authentic and certified judges in preparation for NYSSMA and college admission auditions.

We teach music because we share a passionate belief that we will improve the quality of life and self worth of our students for their entire lives. We do not teach music as a means of satisfying a short-term goal. We believe in music education because we have witnessed the unending value of music in our personal lives and in the lives of our students. We teach excellence and the values of goal setting and achievement by sustained and focused effort. We help students to recognize and nurture their talents and abilities and in doing so stimulate parts of their brain and consciousness that only music can affect. In culmination of encouraging these skills, our music students discover and hold dear the concepts of self-creation, awareness and identity. Through music education these values become intrinsic to students and as part of their core will, with hope, lead them to successful, satisfying and happy lives.

I am truly honored to serve as President of this incredible group of musicians and educators. I speak of the CCMTA with deep and genuine pride as I regard the magnitude of what happens musically in our County throughout the year. On behalf of the CCMTA I welcome you to our site. Please explore our many groups, performances and festivals. You are enthusiastically invited to attend any and all of our events and share with us in celebrating our wonderful collective of student musicians.
